Read about how Lilly and I became friends (the craziest first hang) and how we thrived running around the field at sunset for her wildflower senior session!
Lilly and I met when she was taking photos for our church’s 5th grade end-of-year retreat at Austin Park and Pizza. We exchanged phone numbers and planned a coffee date for a few weeks later.
We met for coffee (rather, chai lattes) and chatted about all things photography businesses, editing, gear, technology, road trips, etc.
When Lilly and I were sitting at the coffee shop (Tea Xchange in Bee Cave), I noticed my phone was blowing up with texts from my coworkers (at the tech sales job I was working at the time). It was June 1st (the beginning of our fiscal year) and we knew a lot of changes were coming.
My teammate texted me to let me know she had been laid off. I quickly went to check my work messages, and sure enough, my boss wanted to have a conversation over zoom. I walked away from the table, took the call, and came back without a job.
Lilly greeted me with a hug and asked me, “well what do you want to do?” I smiled through a few tears and realized that I hadn’t even thought about what I wanted to do. But now I know. I want to pursue a career in building community through creative expressions of human experiences! I want to take photos of people and love them well.
For Lilly’s senior photos, we decided to meet at our church – Austin Ridge Bible Church – before she left for Hawaii the next morning.
We started in this patch of wildflowers that we spotted in the parking lot, looking out over the west Austin hills!
Lilly did a quick outfit change into the cutest shorts and blazer set and then we headed to a field on a hill with some trees to get some * branding * photos for her!
After capturing all these super fun branding shots, Lilly changed into some cute white jeans and a floral corset top to head to a lower field that was surrounded by trees that would eventually hide the sun as it set.
This was such a sweet time with Lilly! I can’t wait to see how her photography business takes off in the next season after graduation!
